For some, January is the perfect time to restart and set New Year’s resolutions, while for others, it’s a moment to slow down, reflect, and dream about what the year ahead may hold.
To be honest I find it quite difficult to slow down and pause and allow myself to rest, but I have found different tools and techniques that allow me to do this in a way that works for me. One of these practices is Yoga Nidra.
I would describe Yoga Nidra as a style of guided meditation but I feel that there’s so much more to it than just that. It’s often referred to as ‘yogic sleep’ and unlike traditional meditation, you’re invited to lie down, making sure you are warm and comfortable, fully supported with props, like bolsters and blankets so you can completely rest. This allows you to enter a liminal space exploring a state between wakefulness and sleep.
For me, it’s been a way to carve out intentional time to rest and recharge, a gentle reminder to myself that it’s okay to stop doing all the time and pause, rest and relax.
I will be offering a 2-hour workshop next Sunday 21st January in Yoga Quarter from 2pm - 4pm and I will be incorporating 3 of my favourite styles of yoga - Slow flow, Restorative Yoga and Yoga Nidra. If you’d like to join, book through YQ website or send me a message for more details.
